Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right tile adhesive?

The choice follows the substrate (concrete, plaster, existing tiles), the size of the tile and whether the work is indoors or out. Large formats and low-absorption porcelain call for high-performance, slip-resistant classes. Pools, terraces and heated floors need a deformable product. Weber's range sets out these application classes separately.

What does grout do, and how wide should the joint be?

Grout fills the gap between tiles, keeps water from reaching the substrate and absorbs movement. Joint width follows the tile size, the edge type (rectified or natural) and where the tiles are laid. In wet areas a water-repellent grout is the better choice. At corners and movement joints, flexible sealant is used instead of grout.

Is waterproofing applied before tiling a bathroom?

Yes. Waterproofing goes on once the screed and plaster are ready, and before any tile is laid. Tape or collars are set into the wall-to-floor corners and around the drain, and the product is applied in at least two coats. Tiling only starts once it has fully cured. Adding waterproofing later usually means taking the tiles up again.
